To say that fidget spinners are popular is an understatement. In the course of researching this blog, we hopped onto YouTube and entered “fidget spinners” in the search bar. The result was 10,800,000 videos on the topic that range from “Fidget Spinner Tricks with a Professional Fidgeter” to “Bad Kids Hypnotize Mommy with Fidget Spinner”. A recent edition of the online publication of Scientific American outlines the findings of a study as to the practical application of fidget items for adults.
In the special needs arena, we have long known that stress balls and other fidget devices serve as tools to help children on the autism spectrum and those who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, known as ADHD as well as others with sensory differences.
The Washington Post reported earlier this summer that some schools are now imposing an outright ban on fidget devices, claiming distraction in the school rooms.
